A 200-level student of Accounting of the University of Port Harcourt was found dead on Friday in her apartment located in the Aluu town of Ikwerre Local Government Areas of Rivers state.
The university’s Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Chima Wokocha, confirmed the incident and identified the young lady simply as Adaeze and said, “Her body was brought by the Chief Lulu-Briggs Health Centre by the people who lived around her lodge.
“She didn’t die in the university hostel. She died in her off-campus residence in Aluu and the scene of the crime was visited by the management of the university, including my humble self.”
Speaking further, Prof Wokocha said, “The police were there with us also. We acknowledge the fact that she had taken a substance and passed out because there was a bottle of a substance that was found by her side. The parents have come there and I think they are making arrangements to take the body”.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, has confirmed the incident, saying investigations are in top gear to ascertain the cause of her death.
“The Divisional Police Officer said a landlord came to report that he saw his tenant on the ground. So, the DPO went there, they saw foam coming out from her nose and mouth and they also saw sniper close to her (the student),” she said.
“So, they rushed her to the hospital where she was confirmed dead. Investigation is ongoing to find out the circumstances leading to her death.”
This development is coming two weeks after another female UNIPORT student, Justina Otuene, was killed and dismembered allegedly by her lover Damian Okoligwe who is still in police custody
