The role of the Lagos State Building Control Authority {LABCA), Environmental and Town Planning is once more in opprobrium as residents of Olusegun Ogunseye in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA now sleep with their eyes open for the fear of flash floods as the downpour continues ceaselessly.

    Flooded Olusegun Ogunseye Street

Like many developing suburbs in Lagos state like Ayobo, the effective roles of all building control agencies are usually expected to top notched so as to avoid the menace of erecting building inappropriately with the aim of checkmating that structures aare built in line with the state environmental and regional planning; but this seem to have failed the residents of Olusegun Ogunseye and Unity Streets in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA.
    Flooded Unity Street

The failure of adequate supervision or an act of compromise by all relevant agencies have thrown entire community into agony of flash floods at slightest rainfall due to lack of proper channel for flow of floods thereby forcing them to erect barricades on streets which have remained a nightmare for the road users.
    Flooded Unity Street

According to the General Secretary of Great Harmony Community Development Association, Comrade {Pastor} Elijah Adesoye Alao who was on hand to take our correspondent round the affected areas noted that the cause of the problem remains lack of proper building control supervision by relevant agencies, noting that the CDA has made efforts to control the floods which he said have sometimes resulted to a feisty-cuff amongst the landlords yet with no meaningful results achieved.
According to Alao there is little the landlords can achieve at this point as they lack the jurisdiction to demolish any obstructing structure{s} as it has become imperative to do so in the best interest of the community and its residents as he implores on the LCDA and LASG authorities to come to their aid. He expressed the CDA’s displeasures with the Ayobo LCDA Chairman who had visited the area following their several complaints to his office and acknowledged that several correspondences have also been sent to the office the governor yet no action has been seen so far.
Mr Alao reiterated that Olusegun Ogunseye Street has such an important role in reducing the time spent moving around Ayobo as it will serve as link road between Alaja Road and the Asipa Road when fixed thereby will improve the movement of residents, development and commerce in the LCDA.
