A leading support group of the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 general elections Atiku Campaign Movement Worldwide (ACMW)has moved to adopt and supports the candidate of the Lagos State gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) Mr Babatunde Gbadamosi. The decision was reached yesterday during its strategic meeting to review the activities so far by each of the candidates four weeks to the elections.
The convener of the movement Barrister Segun Michael reiterated that the Movement is a non-partisan group but with core interest in having good governance at all levels of government cum political offices. He noted that ordinarily it would have been expected of them as a leading support group of Alhaji Atiku to support the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Lagos state, Mr Jimi Agbaje as the case may be but its not so. From the review of activities of all gubernatorial candidates of Lagos State with much emphasis on the just concluded gubernatorial debate, Mr Gbadamosi was exceptionally outstanding.
The performance of the candidate of ADP in the Lagos state gubernatorial debate held on Sunday and organized by The Platform an initiative of the Christian Covenant Center where Mr Gbadamosi proved to understand better what it takes to govern a state like Lagos state, hence it is expedient to support him towards achieving the desires of Lagosians and also to enthrone good governance for all Lagosians which is the core goal of our movement.
He noted that though we are yet to reach out to his campaign team on the decision but efforts will be geared towards that in the coming days. He went further to say ” it is time for Lagosians and Nigerians at large to understand their electoral might and entrust public/political offices to the hands of those capable of running them rather than following the wills of an individual or few leaders, Lagos is a cosmopolitan city with divergent people and opinions hence the views and wills of such individuals might not be good enough”.
He promised to mobilize its over 7000 members with permanent voters card holders in the group at each of the wards in Lagos state and other affiliate bodies to urgently move to canvass for votes for Mr Babatunde Gbadamosi for the March 2nd 2019, elections while efforts will be made to reach out to his campaign office of ADP for further discussions towards aligning with the visions of each group in the coming days; he concluded.
