For many years running club ownership has proved to be a serious business globally; especially in developed countries where sports have thrived, while it may have struggled to attain such level in Africa and other developing continents. The tradition of club ownership is usually that of building a sizeable fan base through which the clubs raise monies from its marketing of souvenirs and franchise while it in turn pushes to deepen its philosophy to its host community through methods that include CSR, social awareness campaigns etc.
Alimosho FC which metamorphosed from SNC Academy and had played under the socialiga with both male and female teams. According to the Marketing Director of the club Mr. Teslim Sani says the club is moving away from being just a charity team to becoming a more competitive club. In the past we have played for the course of promoting or creating public awareness on sickle cell anemia and its likes but the business side of football comes with a great fan base and this we hope to achieve by branding our team after the most populated LGA in West Africa – Alimosho, the management of Alimosho Fc has under studied the gains of building a brand after Alimosho with the hope of attracting its populace as its owners and making it a platform to promote not just football but all other facets of human development.
The creation of Alimosho Fc is to serve as a hub of development for the numerous embedded talents in football in Alimosho LGA, while promoting the need for education, vocational trainings for all its intakes with the hope to provide for those that will not take football as a profession and also a platform for creating social awareness on Sickle Cell Anemia and others as the need arises. The management is also focused to creating employment for Alimosho youths through its franchise, fan base medium and curbing unemployment and other social vices among the youths through sport.
The Alimosho FC though owned by few individuals is designed to be a platform of harnessing the growing population of Alimosho and creating the required standard forum for leisure for its supporters and for all residents. AFC is a football project which we believe will promote sports business not just in Alimosho but for Lagos State and Nigeria at large and our target is to make sure that our players understand the rules of the game, the need to abide to them and becoming role models for others especially the younger ones. We anticipate also that in the nearest future our players will get call-ups to represent the nation on a national assignment owing to their exhibited established quality, character and professionalism.
The management of AFC over the years have gained so much experience in club management and marketing and our plan is to have every residents of Alimosho as its member and opened for collaborations with corporate and individuals across the LGA and even beyond by setting and pushing for the acceptability of its standards and philosophies. Definitely, Alimosho FC will be a leading community based football club in the nearest future, Sani added.
