Hours after the members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC) declared that the primary election was yet to be conducted despite the exercise carried out yesterday the state chapter declared the results affirming Babajide Sanwo Olu winner.
The Chairman of Lagos state All Progressive Congress party Alh. Tunde Balogun today held press conference at the state party secretariat with the press men where he congratulated and thanked the members of APC Lagos state for participating in the governorship primary in the state. Balogun expressed his happiness for the peaceful conduct of the gubernatorial primary election throughout the state and thanked party members for demonstrating their commitment to democracy and to the party.
Alh. Tunde Balogun affirmed that APC Primary election held in Lagos state today October 2nd, 2018, was in accordance with the party‘s constitution. He maintained that the election was peaceful and without incident- the exercise was clearly free, fair. He further noted that the unprecedented number of APC members that exercised their democratic right and expressed their democratic Will.
He also reiterated that there was no significant or material complaints of intimidation or irregularity in the conduct of the election. He thereby declared the election as credible, open and honest.
In swift reaction to the NWC pronouncement of no election Alh. Tunde Balogun said that the people have made their choice and there is no reason to cast aside the sovereign Will of the people that turned out in their numbers to vote and for the NWC to say no primary took place that it will mean to cast shame on the party and its leadership, this I shall not do”, he promised.
The Chairman then declared Mr.Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu as the winner of the Lagos state gubernatorial primary election having defeated the incumbent governor of Lagos state, Mr.Akinwunmi Ambode. He said Babajide Sanwo-Olu pulled a total of 908,861 votes while Akinwunmi Ambode got 72,601 votes. Therefore, Sanwo-olu is the party’s gubernatorial candidate for 2019 general election in Lagos state under the platform of the APC.
