Egbin Power Plc, Nigeria’s largest power generation company, has awarded scholarships to 14 students from its host communities as part of its ninth annual scholarship program. This initiative supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which aims to provide inclusive, equitable, and quality education.
The scholarship program covers tuition, textbooks, uniforms, and provides each student with a high-quality tablet for accessing e-textbooks. The students will be admitted into Powerfields Schools, an institution owned by Egbin Power that offers nursery, primary, and secondary education within the secure environment of the power plant.
According to Egbin Power’s CEO, Mokhtar Bounour, the scholarship has empowered students to achieve academic excellence and build confidence. “Education is not a privilege, it is a fundamental right that every child deserves,” said Bounour. The company remains committed to investing in the future of Nigerian youth, recognizing that the nation’s future depends on the next generation.
The scholarship initiative has attracted hundreds of students annually and features activities such as boot camps, educational fairs, and games to develop problem-solving skills, teamwork, and social abilities. Powerfields Schools’ Administrator, Ngozi Emezue, praised Egbin Power for establishing the scholarship program, highlighting its transformative impact on the community, particularly during challenging economic times.
