Former Local Government Chairmen in Rivers state have expressed outrage over Governor Siminalyi Fubara’s continued support for the illegal Caretaker Committee Chairmen, despite a Supreme Court judgement nullifying their appointments.
At a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the former chairmen accused the governor of promoting illegality and called on the Inspector General of Police to arrest the caretaker committee chairmen. They threatened to forcefully occupy their respective councils if the situation persists.
Led by Chidi Lloyd, former chairman of Emohua LGA, the group vowed to take action, stating, “We are not cowards. If this continues, we will go back to our local government and force ourselves into the council… We are calling on the police to act fast.”
Allwell Ihunda, former chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government, described the governor’s actions as “a major paradox, an aberration” and “flagrant disobedience of the Supreme Court judgement.”
The former chairmen urged law enforcement agencies to intervene, warning that the governor’s actions could tear the state apart. They emphasized their commitment to peace but vowed to take drastic measures if necessary.
