Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, Dunukofia local government area of Anambra state, Godwin Aghaulor, has ordered a thorough investigations into the alleged loss of a three-month pregnancy of Mrs. Mmesoma Odili while in detention at the station.
The AIG also wants to unravel the allegation that Mmesoma was arrested when the Police could not get her husband who was equally accused of illegal possession of firearms following a land dispute in their area.

It would be recalled that Mmesoma of Umuosiegbo village in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra state had reportedly lost her three months pregnancy while in detention at the Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, Anambra state.
The allegations were laid by one Mr Jude Ikeanyionwu, who is from the same town with Mmesoma’s husband, Umuosiegbo village in Umunya community, Oyi local government area of Anambra state.

In a statement signed by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Ihunwo, said Ikeanyionwu alleged that Mmesoma’s husband, who was a member of the vigilante group in the area, was against the “illegal act of selling the communal land by some elders of the community.”
According to Ikeanyionwu, ” when the members of the Zone 13 command came to arrest Mmesoma’s husband and he was not around, they arrested her in lieu and detained her beyond the legally permitted duration in the course of which her three months pregnancy was lost.”

Z-PPRO further said, ” However, the AIG of Zone 13 has ordered an immediate investigation into this allegations to ascertain the veracity of the claims, determine the culpability or otherwise of the concerned officers, and take further necessary action.
” Further development will be communicated in due course.”
