The Lagos State Government has announced a further extension of its free hypertension and diabetes screening campaign, “Know Your Numbers, Control Your Numbers,” until Sunday, November 24, 2024. This marks the second extension of the initiative, initially slated to end on November 3, 2024.
The campaign aims to combat hypertension and diabetes, leading causes of disability and death globally. Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, emphasized the importance of knowing one’s health numbers to effectively manage these conditions [1).
Over 330 designated screening sites, including:
– 30 General Hospitals_
– 300 Primary Health Centres_
will offer free screenings daily from 9 a.m. across all Local Government Areas.

The campaign is part of the national ’10 Million Project,’ aiming to screen 10 million Nigerians for hypertension and diabetes. Thousands of Lagosians have already benefited from the initiative since its launch on October 28, 2024 [1).
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat led by example by undergoing screenings, underscoring the campaign’s importance. Prof. Abayomi urged residents, especially those aged 40 and above or with a family history of hypertension or diabetes, to utilize the extended period ¹.
